Release of CubeBackup for Microsoft 365 version 1.2

We are delighted to announce the release of the new version 1.2.0 of CubeBackup for Microsoft 365.

This major update introduces powerful new capabilities, including Teams backup support, file exclusion rules, and user selection based on teams and groups. Beyond these highlights, version 1.2.0 also delivers notable improvements and refinements that enhance the overall functionality and performance of CubeBackup.

1. New Feature: Teams backups

CubeBackup now extends its protection to include backups for Teams channel data, alongside its existing support for Teams files stored in SharePoint. You can safeguard critical posts, conversations and channel structures within Teams, ensuring that the collaboration data is always recoverable in case of accidental deletion.

After upgrading to the new version, CubeBackup will automatically sync your tenant’s team list during the next backup. You can then enable Teams backups by navigating to the SETTINGS page and selecting the teams you want to protect.

2. New Feature: User selection by Teams and Groups

CubeBackup now makes it easier for admins to manage backup users by selecting the entire teams or groups instead of adding users one by one. This new feature streamlines backup configuration for departments, project teams or organization units, and allows admins to enable automatic backup for any new members added to those teams or groups.

3. New Feature: File exclusion rules for OneDrive and SharePoint backups

Administrators can optimize the storage usage by defining file exclusion rules in CubeBackup and skipping unwanted files such as temporary data, large media files and unnecessary folders.

The new cbackup filesExclude command makes it easy to remove unnecessary data from existing backups, while the file exclusion rules can apply to all future backups. For detailed instructions, see: How to remove large unnecessary files from backup storage in CubeBackup.

4. New Feature: Remove an entire Microsoft 365 organization from CubeBackup

For Managed Service Providers or admins managing multiple tenants, CubeBackup now allows thoroughly removing an organization’s backups from a CubeBackup instance.

Simply run the new cbackup removeOrganization command when offboarding a tenant to streamline backup management. For detailed instructions, see: How to remove a Microsoft 365 organization from CubeBackup.

5. New Feature: Search emails by time span

Beyond the existing point-in-time backup snapshots, the new release introduces an enhanced search capability for Outlook Mail backups. Administrators can now locate emails within specific date ranges and retrieve the backups more efficiently.

6. Improvement: Individual login page for end users

After enabling Microsoft OAuth logins, admins can now share the dedicated login page with individual end users. This separation between administrator and end-user login pages reduces administrative burdens and enhances security for administrative accounts by preventing direct exposure to end-user login activities.

7. Improvement: Optimize storage usage calculation

The new version has improved the accuracy and efficiency of storage consumption calculations, reflecting the actual disk usage more precisely. Administrators can view the total backup size on the OVERVIEW and track each backup task on the HISTORY page, allocating storage resources more efficiently.

8. Improvement: More Resilient Backup Performance

CubeBackup has been dedicated to providing reliable backups with enhanced error handling and optimized performance. Admins will notice fewer backup delay and retries when encountering unstable responses from Microsoft APIs, along with smoother overall operation particularly in large-scale or high-load environments.
