How to tag the backup data in cloud storage

Add metadata/tag to the backup data

CubeBackup supports adding metadata/tag to the backup data in your Cloud Storage. You can enable this feature by simply modifying a configuration file.

  • Log (or SSH) into your backup server.
  • Open the configuration file <installation directory>/db/storage.json, using a text editor.
  • Add the following line to the end of (making sure there is no comma at the end of the file)

    WriteMetaTag:true
  • Restart the CubeBackup service so the changes will take effect.

    On Linux:

    sudo /opt/cubebackup/bin/cbsrv restart

    On Windows:

Enter services.msc in the command line, then in the Services list that pops up, right-click the CubeBackup Service entry, and select Restart.

    On Docker:

    sudo docker restart <container-name>

Note:
1. All backup data will be tagged with “cbtag”, with index data marked as “hot” and backup data marked as “cool”.
2. Only data backed up after you have made this change will be given a tag. If you want to attach “cbtag” to all of your backup data, you must add the line before the initial backup or migration from one cloud storage to another.
